Another Futile Ostentation
A narcissistic outlet to express my opinions on things that matter little in the grand scheme. Meant as a companion piece to the other blog I post to, but whose readers may not have the desire to hear my thoughts on such matters as music, sports, and philosophy.
Friday, July 23, 2004It's the opposite of our Cat!Monday, July 19, 2004Shows.
I'll probably post this on the Last Time too, but I figured my puppy needs a walking.
Wed, July 21st The Killas (formerly the GIJoe Killas) a hiphop group from back east who dress up like Cobra Commander, Destro and the Baroness and all their songs are about killing GiJoes and other dastardly Cobra plots....my personal favorite being "Eau de Cobra." Marine Club, I'm still not sure at what time, but I imagine 8-9 for th eopeners. Its only 5$ and $4 if you wear a piece of Camo. And just to keep getting those awesome "Raking Bombs" google hits, I know they are having a show on the 30th at Mike's Tavern. They put on a great show, If you don't check em out sometime before they go on tour, you'll regret it. Wednesday, July 07, 2004Back in the Game.
I've lapsed, and my puppy is almost dead. Sorry about that, I've been in a mental rut the last few days, unable to bring myself to find anything intelligent to post. Hopefully, I'm out of it, but I guess my loyal fans will be the judges of that.
I will now compile some short thoughts on a variety of topics: Euro 2004: So Greece won. I went and watched the game with the Rantoul at the Dover Arms. The first half was boring but it picked up nicely in the end. It was good to see the Portugese in my neighbourhood still went out and partied, pretty much blocking off the street. That's sportsmanship for you. It was a good touney, despite the fact that virtually none of my predictions went through, and none of the teams I wanted to win won. Guess that goes to show my lack of football knowledge. I'll have to bone up before the World Cup 2006. Spiderman 2: Better than the first one. It was just a little better acted and scripted. The plot was stronger with more nice references to possibilities for future movies. The special effects were better; the subway scene was just awesome. All in all, pretty much one of the best comic movies put to film. Changing Lanes: Ignore the fact that I'm pretty gay for Affleck, this flick is pretty good. You get really uncomfortable expecting these two moderately likeable (or at least multi-dimensional) characters ruin each other's lives. It can get quite hard to watch for that discomfort alone. It's shot well, and is nicely acted. What I really like is the underlying themes that it deals with. The struggle between Chaos and Order, and how "doing the right thing" is never a straightforward choice, and doesn't necessarily lead to the best consequences. Construction: They are doing massive renos to the suite above ours keeping me awake, pretty much all morning. Mother fuckers atraighening out their property. How dare they? Music: Been listening to the new Sonic Youth a bit lately, as well as the New Beastie Boys. Yay, for the new Indie/Alternative revival! Both CD's are good. I haven't listened to Sonic Youth pretty much since Dirty, so I wasn't really to sure how good it was going to be, but it's definetly good. Longish, distorted pop gems that recall Daydream Nation in their intensity if not in their sonics. The new Beasties is a return to straight-forward hiphop. Less experimentation, which I like because my favorite Beasties tracks are those which are more traditional hiphop focussed. Also, The Shins album is fast becoming the soundtrack to my summer. It's so damned good. Nightmarket: Hung out with Mike, Angela, Chris, and Janet last Friday. Ate all kinds of crazy Chinese foods and picked up some cheap CDRs and a Usb Cable. It was fun to hangout with Angela and Janet as they are both so different from people I normally hangout with. But in a good way. |
