Another Futile Ostentation
A narcissistic outlet to express my opinions on things that matter little in the grand scheme. Meant as a companion piece to the other blog I post to, but whose readers may not have the desire to hear my thoughts on such matters as music, sports, and philosophy.

Finally. Stoked About School Again.

Looks like I have at least minimal approval with regards to my MA Thesis topic. Lisa suggested I talk to David about it since he's probably better versed in the literature, but if need be, she would supervise it. I'm really excited...let's hope I do this paper justice before starting work on the thesis....I'll keep people posted on the progress of the thesis ideas and research as I imagine that my fan base will be at least moderately interested. (Assuming people actually read my shit). Current proposal involves looking at different solutions to the problem of horror (or tragedy if you want to be technical) hopefully resulting in my developing a vaguely Humean account of the supposed paradoxes that the genre of horror seems to bring with it. I'll keep y'all updated.

And for the record the Sage Francis "A Healthy Distrust" is a great album. Sea Lions is one of my favorite songs. I will post lyrics as soon as I can.

Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust

Just to keep the stupid google and yahoo people coming on in. Haha. Suckers, hoping for more info. Take that bitchez.

Wooot!

New Alkaline Trio album early next year.

INFO: In a recent issue of Alternative Press, Matt Skiba tells us the name of the upcoming Alkaline Trio album will be "Church and Destroy". In terms of album titles that's on par with Good Mourning and From here to Infirmary. Expect a release early next year (source: http://punkmusic.com).

Unmotivated

I'm finding hard to get motivated to post lately (let alone do anything productive). The internet has become broing and I haven't really found much in the way ofgood links lately. TO keep things going I will post 5 new albums I have been listening to death recently:

1) Sage Francis - "A Healthy Distrust"
Technically this isn't out until February but I found it on soulseek. I'm evil like that. I will however buy this as soon as it comes out. I'm pretty stoked. Probably best album of the year so far (even though it comes out next year, natch.) The song with Wil Oldham is so good. It's god more social commentary than Hope or Personal Journals, but it still retains the personal dramatic persona that Sage Francis puts forth.
2) Wiley - "Treadin' on Thin Ice"
This is what I was hoping for from Dizzee Rascal. I like it alot. Fucked up dancey beats with crazy british rapping. Grimey as all get out, but awesome.
3) De La Soul - "The Grind Date"
Haven't really listened to it too much yet, but I like it alot so far. Tracks with MF Doom, and Flava Flav really can't go wrong. It's a little on the pop production style of things, but still solid. It's being compared to Stakes is HIgh, but its not that good.....maybe it will grow on me.
4) Death From Above 1979 - "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine"
CRazy drummer/bass combo act, that kick it hardcore with lots of energy. Catchy as all hell, with a nice dose of abrasiveness and enough interesting ideas and transitions to keep the listener coming back. Awesome.
5) Ol' Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers
Of Course. RIP you crazy fuck.

I know it's all anecdotal....

But it really does seem to ring true. Even up here there's an air of melancholia amongst the people I meet. Some anger, but mostly a subtle sense of hopelessness. It helps that most of my professors and a few schoolmates are american, but still, I can't help but think that even I'm suffering from PESTS a little myself.
